Father, Bob, was a fifth-round draft pick by the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles in 1967 after a collegiate career at Indiana University. Van Pelt lost his PGA Tour card after his first two tries in 1999 and 2002, but after playing his way back in 2004, he has finished in the top 70 on the money list every year but once, with a career-best of 13th in 2010.

Bo and his wife, Carrie, are involved in Habitat for Humanity. They have donated two houses and hosted Tulsa's 2007 and 2008 Habitat for Humanity Golf Tournaments.

He played on the PGA Tour between 1999 and 2022. In 468 starts, made 281 cuts, with 53 top-ten finishes. Was runner-up four times and won the 2009 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. Bo has won $21,402,289 for his 23 years on the PGA Tour. His best years were between 2008 and 2012; he had eight top-three finishes and was 79th on the FedExCup list in 2008, 50th in 2009, 30th in 2010, 23rd in 2011, and 22nd in 2012. In that period, won $11,573,587.

Played full-time on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2000, '01, '03, 2022, '23, and '24. Played in 117 events, making 54 cuts with 15 top ten finishes. Was runner-up twice in 2001, at the Gila River Classic and Dayton Open. Won the 2003 Omaha Classic. He earned $592,511.

2025 Notes: Played in 13 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finish. Was 56th on the Schwab Cup list with earnings of $349,615. Best finish, 2nd at the Sanford International, he was two shots back of the winner, Retief Goosen. Made his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Senior PGA Championship.
