He was the youngest of four boys in Vienna; he started playing at the age of 8. At 11, won the club championship in Hainburg.

He provided one of Austria's sporting highlights in June 2006 when he became the first Austrian golfer to win on The European Tour. To heighten the pleasure, he chose the BA-CA Golf Open presented by Telekom Austria at his home club, Fontana Golf Club in Vienna, on the tournament's return to the Tour for the first time in a decade. That victory continued his love affair with the event, having won it twice before, in 2002 and 2004, when it formed part of the Challenge Tour schedule.

He took his game up another level when he won for the first time outside his own country by capturing the 2007 Volvo China Open in Shanghai. He identified as a talent to nurture at an early age and spent his time in Military Service on a golf scholarship. He could be considered a late developer - he was 27 before he turned professional and 37 before he won his first title - but undoubtedly one of the top sportsmen in a country not renowned for golf. He received congratulations from the Austrian Prime Minister after his win in China.

He played in 371 European tour events, making 192 cuts with 28 top-ten. He won a total of euro 4,064,225.

Joined the Legends Tour in 2018 and played in 12 events with five top-ten finishes. Best finish T-2nd at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters and Paris Legends Championship, a shot back of winner Thomas Levet. He finished 24th in the Legends Tour Order of Merit with euro118,458.

2019 Notes: Played in 17 Legends Tour events with six top-ten finishes. His best finish was 2nd in the Sinclair Invitational, a shot back of the winner David Shacklady and the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

He finished 10th in the Legends Tour points list with euro130,536 in earnings.

2020 & 2021 Notes: Played twice on the Challenge Tour in 2020. T-85th at the Austrian Open and T-50th at the Euram Bank Open. Played in three events on the PGA Tour Champions, T-40th at the KitchenAid Senior PGA and U.S. Senior Open, and missed the cut at the Senior Open Championship. On the European Legends Tour, he played in 11 events and won the FarmFoods European Senior Masters by a shot over Rafael Gomez. He was 2nd at the Scottish Senior Open, losing a playoff to Thomas Levet. He was T-6th at the Staysure PGA Seniors, T-7th at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, and T-8th at the Riegler & Partner Legends. He was 3rd on the Order of Merit for the year, winning euro142,394.

2022 Notes: Played in 15 Legends Tour events with seven top-ten finishes. He was 11th on the order of merit, earning euro134,289. Best finish T-5th at the Italian Open and T-5th at the MCB Tour Championship-Seychelles. Played in three PGA Tour Champions events, missed cut at KitchenAid Senior PGA, T-25th at the U.S. Senior Open, and T-53rd at the Senior Open Championship.

2023 Notes: Played in 15 Legends Tour events with two top-ten finishes. Best finish T-9th in the Riegler & Partner Legends and WCM Legends Open de France. He was 25th on the order of merit, earning euro81,522.
