The nation’s capital prepares to host the Senior PGA Championship on May 22-25 at Congressional Country Club.
The iconic Blue Course at Congressional will host its third PGA of America event in the last four years. In 2022, the Blue Course hosted the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship that saw In-gee Chun win, and last year saw both the Blue and Gold Courses hosted the Junior PGA Championship that crowned Baylor Larrabee and Avery McCrery at the end of the week. Defending Senior PGA Champion Richard Bland will be leading a stacked field into this incredible venue.

“We are both excited and honored to welcome the Senior PGA Championship to Congressional,” Congressional’s Director of Golf and Athletics Jason Epstein, PGA said.
“We become only the fourth club in the country to host all four of the United States men’s traveling majors, and only the second to host all three of the PGA’s traveling majors.”
Many of this year’s Senior PGA Championship field have understandably yet to play the course since Andrew Green’s renovations over 2019-21. There are far less trees on property as a result, leaving visibility of much of the course from the elevated Spanish Revival clubhouse.

Scott McCarron, for example, last played Congressional during the 1997 U.S. Open that Ernie Els would go on to win. McCarron, 59, finished an impressive tie for tenth, his best finish in a U.S. Open.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the redo,” McCarron said. “Should be a great week.”
Kevin Sutherland did not play in that major championship, but he had played the course before the renovation.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing how it looks out there,” Sutherland said.
And that’s the same as many of his peers including Defending Champion Richard Bland and Cameron Percy.
“I’ve never played Congressional,” Percy said, “I’m very much looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.”
Richard Bland shared at his Media Day, "I've obviously heard an awful lot about Congressional with the majors it's held, so I've seen, of course, a little bit on TV.
Obviously can't wait to see it. My first look is going to be the Monday of that week."

The Blue Course has produced a notable list of major champions, including Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els & Ken Venturi.
“We are proud of our partnership, the PGA’s Championship team is the best of the best, and we look forward to welcoming the winner to the club’s long list of champions,” Epstein said.
The senior players are in top form at the minute, so it could very well be any one of them that hoists the Alfred S. Bourne Trophy on the Blue Course at the end of the week.
