Born in Nuneaton, he won the Silver Medal for low amateur at the 1995 Open Championship ahead of Tiger Woods. Turned professional and claimed his European Tour card by winning the Qualifying School later that year. Has played a total of 550 DP World Tour events, making 317 cuts with 57 top-ten finishes. He won twice at the 2005 Telecom Italia Open and 2007 Portugal Masters. Coached mentally by Andy Duncan and technically by Pete Cowen.
Joined the Legends Tour on his 50th birthday in 2025, he played in 12 events and had three top-tens, including a win at the Grass & Co. English Legends. He was 16th in the order of merit with earnings of euro175,278.
