Allan turned professional in 1996 and was a member of the European Tour from 1997 to 2000. In 1998, his second season in Europe, he won the German Open and finished sixteenth on the Order of Merit, and that remains his most successful year. His other professional win came in his home country, at the 2002 Australian Open. From 2001 to 2005, he was a member of the U.S.-based PGA Tour, with his best finishes being second place at the Greater Milwaukee Open in 2003 and the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2004.
In 2006, he played on the Korn Ferry Tour in the United States before regaining his PGA Tour card at the 2006 Qualifying School. From 2001 through 2009, he played in 214 events on the PGA Tour. He made 100 cuts and had nine top-ten finishes. His best finishes were runner-up in the 2003 Greater Milwaukee Open and 2004 Reno-Tahoe Open.
2024 Notes: Played in 24 PGA Tour Champions events with three top-10 finishes. Was 38th on the Schwab money list with earnings of $648,573. At the end of 2023, Allan went to both stages of the PGA Tour Champions Tour Qualifying Tournament. He earned his card for 2024 by finishing T-3rd. In his first start, he was T-53rd at the Chubb Classic. His best finish was T-5th at the Invited Celebrity Classic, four shots back of winner Paul Broadhurst. Also, T-5th at the Ally Challenge.
2025 Notes: Played in 23 PGA Tour Champions events with eight top-10 finishes. Was 9th on the Schwab money list with earnings of $1,709,697. He won three times, at the Galleri Classic, DICK'S Open, and the Boeing Open. Ended his season finishing T-10th at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
2026 Notes: Best finish, T-4th at the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational.
