Miyamoto was born in Shizuoka Prefecture. He took up golf at age 13 and is known on the Japan Golf Tour for his wide smile and positive attitude.
After turning professional, he joined the Japan Golf Tour, where he has won 12 times.
Played a total of 602 Japan Golf Tour events from 1996 through 2023. He made 429 cuts with 135 top-ten finishes. Along with his 12 Japan Tour wins, he was runner-up 18 times and finished 14 times in the top-3. He has career earnings of yen1,182,871,990 ($8,440,886). Miyamoto has been key player on the Japan Tour for several years. He won two events in the same year twice. In 2001, he was victorious at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup and the Japan Tour Golf Championship Iiyama Cup, and in 1998, he won the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup and the Tsuruya Open.
He is now playing on the Japan Senior circuit. Last October, he placed second at the Japan PGA Senior Championship.
He has made 29 starts on the PGA Tour, with his best finish a T-11th in the 1999 Farmers Insurance Open. He did try to play on the PGA Tour, in the Q-School, he finished T-23rd and played full time in 1999, playing in 22 events, making 8 cuts with three top-25 finishes. (best T-11th, Farmers). He made $154,402, which was 170th on the money list.
He has played in one major, missing the cut in the 2010 British Open.
In 2023, won three times on the Japan PGA Senior Tour. Fancl Classic, Fukuoka Senior Open Golf Tournament, Iwasaki Shiratsuyu Senior Golf Tournament
2024 Notes: Made 8 starts on the Japan Golf Tour, only made one cut, finishing 60th at the BMW Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup. Was T-39th at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, T-38th at the U.S. Senior Open. Made it to the final stage of PGA Tour Champions Q-School, finishing T-26th.
2025 Notes: Missed the cut at the Senior PGA Championship and T-13th at the U.S. Senior Open.
2026 Notes: Spends most of his time playing on both the Japan Golf Tour and Japan PGA Senior Tour where he has won ten times.
