On a lightly breezy morning at Congressional Country Club, Vijay Singh and Cameron Percy set the pace at 6-under par through the morning wave during Friday’s second round for the Senior PGA Championship.

Singh, who’s best finishes at the Senior PGA Championship include a runner-up in 2017 and a T8 in 2023, surprisingly scored the best of the two co-leaders after his difficult start. He opened bogey-bogey-bogey, dropping to 1-over for the tournament and mentally heading the wrong direction.

"I said, ‘well, here we go [after his three straight bogeys]," Singh said. "I was planning for the weekend off, but my caddie said to just keep going."

His caddie was the key in his turnaround to a 4-under 68, earning his keep with key words of encouragement. The 62-year-told knows his game has been consistent as of late with four top-20s in his last five starts on the PGA Tour Champions, with his caddie giving a needed gentle nudge to remind him of Singh's form.

“I've been playing very well," Singh said. "I've been driving the ball good. I just hung in there and started making a couple of birdies here and there, picked up the shots, and the back nine I played solid golf."

Cameron Percy remained steady by following up his first leading 5-under 67 with a 1-under 71. The Australian carded four birdies, going out with an opening 2-under 34 and closed with a 1-over par 37.

“It was really hard to start with, and then it kind of felt like the wind settled down a bit, and then I actually had some good holes downwind, and I didn't get up-and-down on nine," Percy said. "Ten, I hit a terrible shot and didn't get up-and-down. Then I three-putted 11, which was a really tough pin."

Challenging hole locations are a part of the test this week on the blue course. Thus far, Percy and Singh have handled the task the best.
