Plenty of attention has been made this week in the Senior PGA Championship on Gary Woodland’s caddie Brennan Little, PGA, earning his way to the other side of the bag this week.
He is making his major championship debut as a member of the Corebridge Financial Team at Congressional Country Club’s iconic Blue Course. Little, PGA, qualified through his local section and then via national qualifying at Sunriver Resort in Oregon last September in the Senior PGA Professional Championship.
He started on the 10th hole at Congressional, paired with PGA Tour Champions players J.J. Henry and Mark Walker. He opened with five straight pars, ultimately finishing with a 7-over 79 in tough conditions during his afternoon round.
“Swing felt good out there, just didn’t make any putts,” Little said after his round.
After 26 years of caddying on the PGA Tour, including at last week's PGA Championship, Little has run into a number of old friends around Congressional Country Club.
Ken Duke competed against Little on the PGA Tour Canada about 30 years ago. He is thrilled to have his long-time friend as a peer this week.
“It’s great, he’s just been a good friend from day one on the Canadian Tour," Duke said. "That’s the good thing about being out here on the Champions Tour, you see a lot of guys like that.
"I think more than anything, we’re always complaining to the caddies as players, so now it’s his turn to complain this week, especially if he hits some bad shots this week," he joked.
Little’s already made it clear this week that he doesn’t feel like he should be eating in player dining. Duke gets a big chuckle when he sees his friend feeling uneasy eating with players.
“I keep telling him, ‘dude, you don’t need to eat in the caddie area, you can eat in family dining.’ But he’s just too humble. He’s a good guy, and he’s a great friend to me. I hope he does great. A lot of people are rooting for him, and I know I am,” Duke said.
Round 1 delivered a masterclass.

PGA Tour Champions rookie Mark Wilson smiled ear to ear when talking about competing against Little, PGA, this week.
“What a thrill for Brennan,” Wilson said. “You can tell he’s really excited for this. I was hitting balls next to him on Wednesday and it was pouring down on us. But he’s put in all the hard preparation. This is a pretty deserving thing for Brennan.”
61-year-old Billy Andrade was pleased to know he’s competing against an old friend this week at Congressional.
“I’m happy for him,” Andrade said. “It’s a great opportunity for him to get out here again with us,” Andrade said.
Even other caddies this week like what they see for their longtime friend.
“I think it’s pretty awesome for him to get this chance,” David Toms’ caddie Scott Gneiser said. “It’s just a cool thing.”

Local Congressional Country Club caddie Ryan Woodward, looping this week for Tim Fleming, PGA, out of Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, admires what Little accomplished.
“That would be an absolute dream,” Woodward, who splits his time between Congressional and TPC Sawgrass, said. “I’m lucky to caddie at some of these amazing clubs, but to get to compete on a big course like this as a caddie is next level.”
